Solutions
Color Arrival Indicator
Time spent on waiting for a bus is usually recognized as dull and lasts like forever, especially without any notice of its arrival. We solved the problem with designing a bus arrival indicator that combines so much needed functionality and aesthetics.
Arrival indicator is actually a rectangular Plexiglas surface where all the bus lines are shown like numbers. These numbers are carved into surface and they glow in different colors. The color of the number changes depending on the location of the bus. Color is intensive if the bus is closer, and fades if the bus is far away.
Message in a Bubble
Nowadays techonology is in every single part of our lives. Virtual world gives us opportunity to communicate in completely anonymous way. In everyday commuting communication is being ignored, everyone is busy and occupied with their problems. We decided to intervene in a small, regular bus station. It is a place where people are often very bored while waiting on a bus. In our survey, we realized that most of them were nervous, annoyed and completely unaware of other people.
Chatting is term used and popularized in virtual world, but we decided to combine it with reality. Instead of dull commercials on bus stations, we put a display on bus station. This display functions like a window where your messages can be shown if you have Bluetooth option on your mobile phone. This system can be activated only if you enter bus station with a proper bus ticket. If you are bored, why not communicate with other people that are also waiting for a bus, but on different stations? Our mission was accomplished. We connected people without disturbing their privacy in a very amusing way.
