Gajo Bulat Square
The project is about a western side of the Gajo Bulat Square - situated between Croatian National Building, church, Jelaska House and City Wall. The first impression was that the square lack a harder frame and that people usually do not stop there. The similar conclusion we made after first visits to the place and interviews with people passing across the square. The idea was to isolate the central part of the square from the traffic and noise it causes by the water wall at the side of the road. The water wall will visually devide the square from the street. One more thing was to create multifunctional benches with descrete displays on the sides, as we wanted to offer digital media for free downloading from the Internet and sending messages that could be publicly presented (displayed). It is a some kind of "city diary" concept, because the messages are going to stay displayed for 24 hours. The goal of the project was to provoke people to use Gajo Bulat Square as a public space for expressing their opinions, wishes and thoughts annonymously. The project was presented twice with the project prototype. People mostly supported the project, but there were also some uncertainties about the impact of the suggested changes on the social activities taking place on the square.
