Project 3: The Labyrinth

The populations of cities are in constant flux while the fabric of the city remains relatively stable. This, in large part, is what contributes to the dynamic nature of urban living. But in the face of such change we all seek stability and familiarity, for example through the people we know or the routes we take when navigating the city.

Drawing inspiration from the labyrinthine composition of the old town of Split, this project sought to disrupt the familiar patterns and routes of inhabitants. The piece was composed of a series of physical elements and sounds that where strategically placed at a busy intersection point thereby forcing people to seek alternate routes or enter the labyrinth. The aim of the work was to make people reflect on their habits, rituals and expectations and ultimately reflect on their environment.
