The conference will take place at the Department of Visual Communication, Arts Academy, University of Split www.umas.hr This Department was the first in Croatia to introduce courses such as Multimedia Technologies and Web Design. It is also known for having developed a design education theory based on semiotic methodology. The Department is located in what originally used to be a Venetian fortress close to the late Roman-Medieval heart of the city of Split.
The city of Split http://www.st.carnet.hr/split/split.html itself is located in the South of Croatia, in the region of Central Dalmatia. It is just one or two hours away by ferry from some of the most attractive Adriatic islands and seaside resorts. The heart of the city grew from the palace of the Roman Emperor Diocletian (built between 295 and 305 A.D.) It contains parts of what is arguably the best preserved late Roman villa. Architects and historians of architecture also value Split's eclectic mixture of architectural styles from subsequents centuries, giving rise to what is known as a mixed Gothic-Renaissance style.
