Alastair Macdonald is head of Department of Product Design Engineering, Glasgow School of Art. His presentation will focus on the specifics of organizing undergraduate education in a product design department.
Angela McRobbie is professor of communications in the Media and Communications Department of Goldsmiths College, University of London. She is the author of British Fashion Design: Rag Trade or Image Industry? Because of inability to travel at conference dates, professor McRobbie will address the conference in a web streaming event.
Bostjan Botas Kenda is a Ljubljana based graphic designer, who teaches graphics for architects at the Faculty of Architecture in Ljubljana, experimental typography at the Istituto Europeo di Design in Milan, and editorial graphics at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo. His paper discusses the role of designer as an educator, explaining to the dealers of a redesigned product why and how exactly its look has changed in the process of redesign.

Fedja Vukic is a design historian teaching in the Department of Design, University of Zagreb. He also works as a design consultant. His paper is a discussion of the social implications of the vernacular design made possible in transition countries by the spread of new technologies.
Jesenka Pibernik teaches at the Faculty of Graphic Arts, University of Zagreb. Her presentation concerns new media supported visual analysis of historical art periods as a means for understanding the contemporary cultural environment.
Julia Cassim is research coordinator in Helen Hamlyn Research Centre at the Royal College of Art, London. The title of her presentation is "Strategies to encourage socially inclusive design thinking in the student and professional communities".

Juri Armanda is a Vienna based graphic designer working from Armanda & Geisler design studio. His presentation, entitled "Global Technology, Local Existence", is based on his experience of tutoring in workshops involving graphic design students from transition countries of Croatia and Slovenia.
Lucille Tenazas is currently the Chair of the newly established MFA program in design at California College of Arts and Crafts. Her San Francisco based design firm is one of the most sought-after in the United States. Her presentation will focus on what it means to educate a "thinking designer", evolving out of a three-pronged educational emphasis on form-making, teaching and leadership.
Marco Brizzi teaches at the School of Architecture, University of Florence. He is curator of the Festival of architecture in video iMage, and the initiator of the Architecture Media Player collection. In a presentation entitled Beyond Media, he will present the 2002 edition of iMage.

Martin Krampen is a design education veteran who has taught design and semiotics at design academies in Ulm and Schwäbisch Gmünd, as well as social psychology and visual communication at the University of Goettingen and Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin. His current empirical research is on the acceptance of solar architecture, proxemics and use of colors on the Internet.
Mathias Fuchs and Sylvia Eckermann are Vienna based digital artists, currently teaching at Sibelius Academy in Helsinki. Their paper, that includes a presentation of their work, is an attempt to discuss how local knowledge (Viennese city history) can be framed in a border-crossing way.
Michael Kneidl teaches interactive design at the University for Applied Sciences Vorarlberg, Dornbirn. He is co-supervisor (with Professor Martin Krampen) of the empirical Internet research of acceptance of a new generation of computer icons by Macintosh OS X. In addition to participating in Professor Krampen's opening lecture, Kneidl will also relate to the conference the experiences of the school he teaches at in the fields of multimedia teaching and e-learning.
Mieke Gerritzen is the founder of design company NL Design and head of Design Department at the Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam. Her paper will include the presentation of the International Browserday, an event NL Design organizes in search of new ways of using the Internet in the context of 21st century design and communications.

Mirko Petric is a lecturer in media theory and semiotics in the Department of Visual Communication, Arts Academy, University of Split. He also teaches visual communication at the Faculty of Textile Technology in Zagreb.The title of his presentation is "The practice of theory: teaching design in the land of anti-design".
Richard Kimbell is professor of technology education and head of Department of Design Research Committee at Goldsmiths College, University of London. He is an expert in design and technology curriculum development. The title of his presentation is "Designing our futures: creativity and employment in the post-modern world."

Sun-Hea Choi and Sandra Cairncross research human computer interaction at Napier University, Edinburgh. The aim of their paper is to discuss issues involved in designing educational multimedia materials and offer a contextual model for multimedia-based learning derived from an empirical study.
Tadej Glazar teaches urban planning at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Ljubljana. His presentation addresses the importance of graphic design and presentation techniques in architectural competitions.
