The Music Department of the Arts Academy of the University of Split includes 11 study programs: composition, music theory, music education, piano, voice, violin, viola, cello, guitar, clarinet, flute and saxophone. All the study programs are organized for only full-time students with the support of the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports, or financed personally, for both Croatian citizens and foreigners. The Music Department consists of six sections: Music Education, Composition and Music Theory, Piano, String Instruments and Guitar, Wind Instruments, and Voice. The Music Department has 33 teachers of academic-teaching, teaching and art, and 25 external associates. Teaching takes place through lectures, mentoring and exercises (with occasional guest lectures from Croatia and abroad), besides regular classes, the following are organized: seminars, concerts, workshops and student productions. Students of the Music Department of the Arts Academy regularly participate in domestic and international music competitions. In addition to offering a variety of music education courses, the Music Department of the Arts Academy also actively participates in the social life of the city, contributing to the creation of its recognizable cultural identity.
Undergraduate and graduate university studies at the Music Department
In accordance with the new European guidelines on the quality of teaching and education based on the Bologna principles, the Master in Music degree is acquired by completing a full-time graduate degree and is preceded by a Bachelor’s Degree (baccalaureus/baccalaurea).
Basic information about the classification procedure for competitive enrollment:
Persons enrolled in a four-year high school and who pass the entrance exam are eligible for enrollment.
At the Department of Music, a qualification exam can be taken in case of candidates who posseses extraordinary talent and who have not completed their secondary education, if they have finished the vocational part of their program (music subjects). Such candidates are required to obtain a secondary education (graduation exam) by the end of the second year of study. These possibilities are not related to the education of professors of music culture, professors of music theory and academic music composers.
The maximum total number of points on the entrance exam is 100 and consists of points awarded for high school achievements and points for success in the entrance exam (exam from individual subjects).
At the Music Department, the elimination factor is a solfeggio for all study programs, and a composition for candidates for composition study program. Candidates who do not obtain the minimum score from the solfeggio are eliminated from further enrollment procedures.
