String Instruments and Guitar

About department

The Department supports study programs of string instruments with three modules (violin, viola, and cello) and guitar on both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Although principally oriented toward the solo performance of instrumental reproduction, which is provided by departmental teachers, the execution of these study programs is also harmonized with the practical requirements of concert practice and the numerous possibilities of orchestral and chamber performing, as well as the educational needs of music schools. The department also engages in significant cooperation with the orchestra of the Croatian National Theater and is the core of the formation and renewal of chamber ensembles in Split and in the southern part of Croatia. Erasmus co-operation has been established both in terms of incoming and outgoing programs, and students regularly receive awards at state and international music competitions.

The department is one of the organizers of the annual J.S.Bach event, which features a series of concerts and lectures related to the music of the Baroque period.
