About the department:

The Film and Video Department has two study programs:

  • FILM AND VIDEO Undergraduate (BA) study program – 3 years
  • FILM, MEDIA ARTS AND ANIMATION Graduate (MA) study program – 2 years

The Film and Video Department offers an education in the field of film and new media. In order to take the entrance exam for the Undgergraduate (BA) study program at the Film and Video Department, a high school degree is required. Most frequently, 8 students are entrolled each year. Students who have completed the undergraduate program acquire the competences for artistic expression in the fields of film and new media, as well as competences for working in the audiovisual industry. The Bachelor of Arts in Film and Video (Baccalaureus/Baccalaurea, BA) acquires basic theoretical and practical knowledge in video, film and digital media. Employment opportunities are found in the audiovisual industry, economy and culture, in public and private companies, and also as self-employed workers or artists.

Those who have completed an appropriate undergraduate (BA) or graduate (MA) study program in the field of art or in humanities, social sciences or information science has the right to apply for the graduate study program (MA) in Film, Media Art and Animation. The program enrolls 15 students. The Master’s Degree in Film, Media Art and Animation provides highly professional profiles for fully independent activity in motion picture media such as film art, animated film or media art. Employment opportunities are in the audiovisual industry and culture such as RTV centers, production houses, film and video studios, museum-gallery institutions, as well as being self-employed or artists.

The students of the Film and Video Department present their work at film festivals, exhibitions, and in various gallery-articulated presentations in the Republic of Croatia as well as throughout the world. They have won many international and national prizes.

Teaching is held in Croatian and English, and the teachers of the department are renowned artists and intellectuals in the fields of film and new media art: Vlado Zrnić, Dan Oki, Sandra Sterle, Toni Meštrović, Jurica Pavičić, Brian Willems, Blažena Radas, Mirko Pivčević , Veljko Popovic, Goran Čače, Dinko Božanić, Leon Lucev, and others.

The department has signed contracts for ERASMUS professor and student exhanges with art academies in Gent (Belgium), Braunschweig (Germany), Aix-en-Provence (France) and the film academy of the University of Sussex in Brighton, UK. Therefore several of our students have studied for one semester in Gent (Belgium) and Braunschweig (Germany). The department also has very good cooperation with the film department of the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Zagreb.

The Film and Video Department regularly hosts international workshops led by colleagues from universities with whom the department has signed Erasmus contracts, as well as with many other renowned international artists and teachers.

The Film and Video Department, in collaboration with the Institute for Network Culture, University of Amsterdam, organized the largest conference in our region in the field of internet and mobile images, as well as the “Video Vortex” exhibition in May 2009 in Split. 30 artists and theoreticians from 6 continents participated in this event.

  • Entry Requirements: passing the State Graduation Exam (Level B) and passing the entrance examination
