Results

Designing for complex social environment lead us to the conclusion that there are places which have their own rich social context where the touch of the designers hand may be unnecessary or it has to be deeply researched and thought through. Any intervention of a designer can easily be inappropriate.

We realized that sometimes designers make false assumptions about what people want. Thorough research is the most important part of the process when designing an interaction for complex environments which are already full of interaction. It is much easier to increase interaction in an environment lacking interaction than to redirect already existing interaction. Our mistake was that we focused on an insufficient number of people in our observation, this resulted in some uncommon observations about the people at the market place.

The cultural probe we made was based on misdirected design goals that we developed on false assumptions, nevertheless our experience and reflections can definitely be used in future design prototypes.
